Instagram is at the top of my list of daily pleasures. When I first started using Instagram, I was looking for kitchen inspiration and motivation. 99.9% of my photos are of meals I’ve prepared. This is done to demonstrate that making delicious and healthy meals does not require a Culinary Institute of America trained chef or a lot of fancy ingredients. I like to keep my meals simple and tasty, which is why the hashtags #KeepItSimple and #KeepItTasty were created. There’s no reason to mask the flavour of your meal’s ingredients with items that neither enhance nor serve a purpose.
Instagram gradually came to play a different role in my daily life. The inspiration and motivation remained, but the unintentional comedy reached new heights. Before I get into my favourite pictures, let me say that I love to laugh, and these pictures help to take the stress out of life, if only for a few moments. If you’re on Instagram, I’m sure you’ll agree that these photos make you laugh as you scroll through your feed on your iPhone or iPad.
Top 6 Reasons I Use Instagram Every Day
Photographs of the Artist at the Coffee Shop
We’ve all seen these photos. The one where the barista, do they only call them that at Starbucks?, decides to turn your cappuccino into a canvas because they are either bored or a starving artist. You see heart shapes all the time, but I’ve never seen one with a face or an animal on it. These images always make me laugh because I can imagine the person ordering their cappuccino in the hopes of tasting the steamed milk and hot coffee and relieving their stress and outcomes a heart.Who gets the heart, according to the barista? Why does the Instagram user decide that another picture of milk in the shape of a heart should be posted? We understand. Coffee as work of art. Let’s get this party started!
Quest Bar Pictures
I’m not sure when the Quest Bar became the face of healthy eating, but there’s almost always a picture of a Quest Bar on a healthy feed. And it’s not just a Quest Bar; this product has been chopped and tossed into cookies and cakes, broken up and tossed into yoghurt, and used in so many other ways that this post would be too long. I’ve never had a Quest Bar and doubt I ever will, so I can’t comment on the flavour. Why do Instagram photos make me laugh? They’re all over the place, and you can’t go a day without seeing a picture of one.
Starbucks
I mentioned the images of coffee barista artists above, but no day is complete without images of Starbucks cups. They could be the outside of the cup or the inside of the cup. I’ve even seen pictures of the Starbucks inside. When I see them, I think to myself, “You bought a Starbucks coffee and decided to photograph it somewhere between paying and drinking, but did you taste it first?” Did you sit down and talk with your friends before pausing to take the photo?I have a lot of thoughts running through my head, and I laugh because I am putting together a conversation that is most likely not taking place, but it is taking place in my mind, and it is hilarious.
Cupcakes
This is my third favourite Instagram photo. I’m not sure why they make me laugh when I see them, but they do. I guess I’m thinking to myself on the inside: when you can’t bake, use the microwave. Perhaps I secretly want to make mug cake. I’m not sure, but I’m certain that when the Instagram pictures appear, I burst out laughing. I can say that I’ve seen some amazing mug cake creations, such as the molten chocolate mug cake. In my opinion, that is incredible, but the old I poured 1 egg, protein powder, and whatever else and voila I ‘baked’ a Protein Mug Cake just cracks me up.
Smoothies made from green vegetables
Seflies Before, During Or After Workouts
These are absolutely infuriating. They’re all over Instagram, and they make me laugh because my first thought is, “Wow, you know how to use your blender.” Of course, it’s a cooking snark, but how many pictures of green smoothies can one person look at before thinking: awesome, now try cooking those greens in a different way. I know smoothies are quick, and I make them myself, but I don’t share them on Instagram because I didn’t do anything other than add water, vegetables, and fruit to my blender. I want my Instagram feed to inspire and motivate people to get into the kitchen and cook, but if a green smoothie gets someone started on the path to health, I’m all for it. Let me be clear: there is nothing wrong with green smoothies or smoothies in general; it’s just that when you see 20-50 green smoothie pictures per day, you can’t help but laugh.
Before, During, and After Workouts
These are my personal favourites. The flex pose is the best, but today I’m presenting my friend Marlene of Mission To A(nother) Marathon because her selfies make me want to vomit. I love it when she posts pictures of herself in the bathroom at her office after a sweaty ride or run, and her expression says it all. Marlene in her swim goggles is my favourite picture of her because she looks like those guys from Despicable Me, and thus my nickname for her is Despicable Marlene.Selfies are the gift that keeps on giving because you know you’ll see dozens of them at any given time, each one funnier than the last. Do you wait until the bathroom is empty before taking the photo? Do you mind if the restroom is crowded?
These are the six reasons why Instagram will always have a place in my daily life. It’s beyond me how you can’t laugh at some of the things you see on Instagram. There’s a lot of inspiration and motivation, such as the 21-Day Sugar Detox I’ll be posting about on Monday, but there’s also some hilarity. I truly enjoy following the people in my feed because they inspire me to cook, get me to the gym, and make me laugh.
